Frequently Asked Questions
What does ISW stand for?
ISW stands for Introductory Seminar Week, and is considered the "frosh week" of Trent University!
How long does Introductory Seminar Week last?
ISW will run from the moment you move in, until the following weekend! Although classes start on Thursday, there will be activities running throughout the end of the week to keep your week going! Make sure you stop in between your classes!
What should I bring with me on move-in day?
A smile and a positive attitude! Move in day is inevitably going to be a bit high stress, pretty busy and very crowded. As long as you keep your spirits up, you can hang on to the magic of your first day at Trent! Seriously though? You will need a piece of photo ID to pick up your residence package, and bring anything that you'll need to move into your new room! Check out our list of things you should bring to move in!
Do I need to bring anything for ISW week?
We definitely want you to buy an ISW T-Shirt! They are going to be so sweet, and they're unique to OC and your year! You can purchase one here, and you'll want to wear that alllll week! But don't forget to wash it! If you are an on campus student, you have the ability to stop into your room between events, so you won't have to worry about forgetting anything. If you are an off campus student, you'll be prompted on whether or not you'll want to bring extra money, a change of clothes, or anything else with you when you come to campus in the morning. We gotcha covered!
I don't know what room I'm in, help?
You'll have your room number given to you on move in day! It'll be in your move in package along with your key, some Trent swag, and your ISW schedule!
Will I know who my room mate is before I move in?
Unfortunately, no. You'll meet your room mate(s) when you move into your room on move in day! This is due to Trent's privacy rules they have in place to protect you!
Can we move things around in our room?
Yep! As long as you have a safe escape route in case of an emergency, and you put everything back when you move out in April.
Is there storage under the beds?
Yes there is! In regards to singles and doubles, where the beds are on the floor, there is a hefty amount; you can definitely fit (at least) 2 of those under-bed storage containers. In terms of triple rooms, where you will be given a bunk bed, there will be a desk and a wardrobe underneath your bed provided for you.
Does OC have a kitchenette where we can cook?
Every house in OC has a small "kitchenette" that has a small sink in it; it's perfect for doing dishes! There is no fridge or stove provided in the house, though. If you choose to bring a toaster or kettle to school, make sure you only use it in this area!
